Robert D. Metcalf

<empty>Robert D. Metcalf’s practice focuses on all areas of labor law, including arbitration, state and federal court litigation and NLRB proceedings. He is a founding member of the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee (LCC), a member of the National Lawyers Guild Labor and Employment Committee, and is a past Governing Council member of the Minnesota State Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section.

Bob is dedicated to the labor movement, to working people and human rights. A defining moment for Bob as a civil rights advocate was when he had the opportunity to witness Martin Luther King, Jr., deliver his “I have a dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Bob was an anti-war leader in the ‘60s and, early on, learned how to participate effectively in the political process, becoming involved in DFL politics.

Before getting his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1969, Bob was a member of two unions – OPEIU Local 2 when he worked at a gas company in Washington D.C., and Laborer’s Union Local 363 when he worked in construction for the City of Minneapolis. This early union experience enhanced his effective advocacy of many unions in the Upper Midwest for the past 35 years. Bob loves his work as a union-side labor attorney because, as he puts it, “it’s nice knowing you’re always on the right side.”

Bob has been selected repeatedly by his peers as a “Super Lawyer.”
